Hacking for Humanity was the theme of this weekend’s first ever hackathon organised by Girls in Tech Gibraltar. Despite the name, the international event was an exercise in social innovation, with teams invited to design computer programs for a charity of their choice.

After receiving their brief, seven teams spent the weekend designing programs aimed at helping charities use the technology towards greater efficiency.

The winning team was Stewie Griffin with their case management system for Childline Gibraltar. They were presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Minister for Equality Samantha Sacramento.

Childline thanked the Hackers and Girls in Tech, saying they were “overwhelmed” by the talent they had seen.
